What's So Great About the Swim Studio? Why Shouldn't I Just Take Lessons in a Regular Pool?

The Chicago Blue Dolphins Swim Studio is a one-of-a-kind environment for rapid delivery of swim instruction & stroke improvement. The Swim Studio is:

  •          Two Dual-Propulsion Endless Pools for movement isolation, endless repetition and refinement
  •          Floor and front-mounted mirrors for real-time visual feedback
  •          Under—and above—water video recording and playback to aid in micro-adjustments to your stroke

The Swim Studio unifies visual, kinesthetic and analytical feedback for the most effective stroke improvement in the Chicagoland area.

Our Studio has many advantages over a regular pool:

  • You'll learn new skills faster in an Endless Pool than you would in a regular pool
  • Endless Pools allow us to cater to everybody’s style of learning
  • Swimming-in-place allows our coaches to adjust your stroke while you’re swimming (that saves us from having to chase you down the entire length of the pool to stop you from swimming incorrectly)
  • And perhaps the most popular reason why it’s better: our water is warm!

Learning how to swim is just like learning something new in school, and everyone learns differently. We’ve designed the Swim Studio environment to teach skills in a way that speaks to all 3 learning styles—analytical, visual and kinesthetic. Most conventional environments either focus on one learning style or combine them in a way that’s disjointed. In our Studio we’ll give you a verbal description of a drill, demonstrate the drill using an underwater camera, adjust your body position when you are doing the drill (while you watch the results real-time in a floor mirror), and show you a clip of yourself to compare against the coach. Such an integrated teaching approach allows you to learn the lessons rapidly & creates a powerful experience for both new and experienced swimmers.

We also love the Swim Studio environment because it gives us the greatest amount of freedom for teaching you swimming skills: if you’re working on a small adjustment we can have you swim two strokes (to focus on perfection); if you’re working on control we can have you swim 300 strokes (to focus on consistency). Unlike a conventional pool, you won’t have to constantly break at the wall when working on holding a skill for longer distances.

In our Endless Pools, our coaches stand by your side, in the water, the entire time. This allows them to make small adjustments to your body in real-time while you are doing a drill, so you know exactly what the drill feels like and, thanks to our mirrors and video, you know exactly what it looks like, too.

In a conventional pool, you might swim an entire lap doing the skills incorrectly.  Repeating a skill over and over and over again causes conditioning. If you are repeating a skill incorrectly over and over and over again, you are teaching yourself to swim incorrectly!  In our Endless Pools, if you're not swimming correctly, the instructor can immediately adjust you or stop you to fix the movement.

Finally, we keep our Endless Pool water temperature at 90 degrees, whereas most conventional pools are kept between 78 & 82 degrees—brrr! A water temperature of 90 degrees keeps you comfortable so you can pay attention to your swimming exercises instead of how rapidly you are losing body heat.  Greater focus during your lesson will lead to faster learning and more effective repetition.

Our coaching staff has taught many thousands of lessons over our collective careers. We believe that we are much more effective at teaching in this environment than we ever have been in conventional pools, and we think you’ll agree.
